Overview

My latest job was as webmaster / content coordinator / project manager for iRepublic, company intranet for The Arizona Republic (Phoenix, AZ). I also have extensive editorial experience as a writer, editor and designer, and as a technology trainer.

Technology skills

  • HTML editors including Dreamweaver MX 2004, Contribute, and Homesite, as well as NetObjects Fusion, and Microsoft FrontPage. I have some rudimentary knowledge of Macromedia Flash.

  • Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft FrontPage and Quark Xpress.

  • Basic Unix skills (including Apache web server) and basic programming skills (php, javascript, Perl), as well as familiarity with Windows and Macintosh environments.

  • Classroom instructor of NetObjects Fusion, Internet skills, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Word and basic Windows functionality.

Work history

  • Feb. 2000 to April 2006: Intranet Webmaster / Content Coordinator at The Arizona Republic, Phoenix Ariz. Duties included conceptual work, coding, content and ongoing maintenance and growth of company intranet. I was solely responsible for supporting content contributors throughout the organization, and also for corporate communications initiatives in the IT department.

  • June 1982 to Feb. 2000: Copy Editor, Page Designer and Technology Trainer at The Arizona Republic. Duties included design and copy editing of virtually every section of the newspaper, as well as classroom instruction of various technology applications.

  • June 1980 to June 1982: Reporter for various newspapers, including The Phoenix Gazette, Pierce County (Wash.) Herald, and Mercer Island (Wash.) Reporter.

Education

  • Graduated from University of Washington in 1982 with Bachelors' Degree in Political Science, minor in Journalism.

  • Two-time winner of the Scripps-Howard Journalism Scholarship, and the only male to win a scholarship from Women in Communications Inc., a professional group in Washington State.
